Holiday time is beginning!

Veteran's Day is next Friday so yesterday Kendra and I met at the Legion Hall and baked and decorated 106 cupcakes for dessert for tonight's dinner for the town veterans. Today I will bake another 4 dozen cupcakes for tomorrow's church coffee hour. We tried three different brands of cake mix, Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker and Pillsbury. Each box said it would yield 24 cupcakes yet EACH brand used a different combination of water and oil. The most perfectly formed cupcakes came from the Pillsbury mix in both the yellow and devel's food favors. I also think there was a difference between metal pans and silicone. The cupcakes baked in the silicone pans spread instead of forming nice, rounded tops. Kendra was in charge of frosting, which I knew was her favorite part of the job. I added red, white and blue sprinkles and sparkly sugar decorations. Why is it so hard to find patriotic decorations this time of year?

  1. Hi Diane, Thanks for your visit to my blog. I popped over to return the visit & joined as your newest follower. I thank you for all your efforts on behalf of the Vets (my DH is a VNam vet & all my family males served as well...so we are appreciative of the respect given to any Vet). Enjoyed reading your baking adventures, and read your profile as to why you picked the name Chaotic Crafter. I think that would be a good name for me too. I usually make cards in a hurry, intend to put things back later. When later comes, I'm on another card mission, and right now I'm missing some S/Binders from 3 sets. I know they're in the mess somewhere, cause I don't take them from the house! Looking forward to returning and enjoying some lovely projects here. TFS & Hugs
